MY EXPERIENCE
My name is Robenia Bayer-Barthe', furthermore, I am an instructor for Rape Aggression Defense (RAD), certified in 2009. I earned my certification while working at the Harris County Sheriff's Office as a deputy sheriff for 32 years, proudly, honorably retired in 2017. Currently, I am working full-time again as a police officer with a different law enforcement agency.
I assisted in teaching RAD classes at the Stafford Police Department, Harris County Sheriff's Office, Precinct One Constable's Office, and Prairie View A & M University Police Department. I have participated in several RAD Instructor's Certification Courses, including frequently mentoring new RAD instructors.
WHY DO I TEACH?
As a survivor of domestic violence, I honestly know all too well the harsh realities regarding abuse and assault. Due to personal experiences with abuse, I find it honorable to work with a system that teaches women how to protect themselves against aggression.
HOW IT WORKS FOR RAD STUDENTS
As a RAD student, if learning new things is hard for you, no need to worry! I will patiently work with you until you learn the techniques. We will offer various options to accommodate which techniques most beneficially suit your strengths. Overall, students will acquire what I call "street-smarts," including verbal and physical skills that you may need to defend yourself against rape or assault. This class will help you be aware of your surroundings and know what to look out for. These abilities may help defenders prevent, resist, or survive an assault!
